Track me!

Staying safe as I cycle alone and unsupported towards New Zealand is a concern of mine, and needless to say, a major concern of my parents. Procuring their blessings to attempt such a ride was dependent on some conditions. Travel insurance was one, another was a GPS tracker.
So, I have bought a SPOT gen 3 GPS which will send my exact location co-ordintes back home several times a day (it also has an SOS button!). Using some clever stolen code, I have also embedded the SPOT map into this website page so friends and family can tune in to see where I’m at. My location will be pinged to this map every hour, every day (but only while I am moving).

  4. Day 39

Thanks for the blog and photos. So sorry to hear about the food poisoning episode. It evokes vivid memories of violent sickness and the rest in several far flung destinations over many years. It happens to all of us I expect. We can laugh about it later but at the time you wonder what has taken over your whole system. Never mind, you are fit and strong and with plenty of healthy food and liquids it will be distant memory. We have tended to keep off all meat and uncooked vegetables in warmer climes and where refrigeration is less reliable. Anything that has been boiling in a pot for hours is probably safe. In a restaurant situation tell the waiter you have a complex diet and need to see the pots cooking in the kitchen. Make your choice from these rather than just the menu (if there is one!)

    Bon appetit!
